Locum Head of Legal

South Yorkshire | Hybrid Working | 3-Month Initial Contract | Immediate Start

A Local Authority in South Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Locum Head of Legal to provide interim leadership and support during a period of absence.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior local government lawyer to join a well-established legal services team in a strategic leadership role.

The Role

As Locum Head of Legal, you will lead and oversee the Legal Services function, providing strategic legal advice and operational leadership across a broad range of local authority matters.

You will have responsibility for teams covering:

Property

Procurement & Contracts

Litigation

Adult Social Care

Children's Social Care

You will also provide oversight of:

Information Governance

Data Protection

Subject Access Requests (SARs)

Corporate Complaints

The Practice Manager will report directly into this position.

Requirements

To be considered, you will have:

Previous local government experience.

Significant experience within a local authority legal services environment.

Senior management experience, including leading and developing legal teams.

A broad understanding of local government law.

Knowledge of Adult Social Care and Children's Social Care legal matters.

Contract Details

Initial 3-month contract.

ASAP start.

3-4 days per week preferred.

Full-time hours considered for the right candidate.

Hybrid working.

Approximately 1-2 days per week in the office.

Competitive rate, negotiable depending on experience.

This assignment would suit an experienced local government lawyer who can quickly provide strategic leadership and operational support within a busy legal services team.
