East Grinstead service driver: hours, licence checks and pay

PHS Group’s washroom service driver advert offers 40 hours a week. Before applying, separate the working window from shift length and basic pay from on-target earnings.
Forty hours within a daytime window
The East Grinstead vacancy is advertised as permanent, Monday to Friday, with 40 guaranteed hours a week and no scheduled weekends. PHS asks applicants to be available within a 6am–6pm working window.
That window does not mean a 12-hour shift every day: the advert separately specifies a 40-hour week. It does not give an individual daily rota, so the useful question for the recruiter is when your allocated route would normally start and finish.
The work combines driving with physical collections. Duties include collecting hygiene and nappy bins from customer premises, servicing hygiene products, completing records and returning to the depot once a week to unload waste. Routes are planned centrally; the East Grinstead location does not establish that every customer visit stays within the town.
Read the licence restrictions before applying
PHS asks for a full UK manual driving licence held for at least 12 months, with no more than six points. It also specifies no DR, DD, CD, TT, IN or AC endorsements in the previous five years. These are the conditions in this particular advert.
The advertised company vehicle is for business use. The role therefore calls for a licence that meets PHS’s conditions, alongside readiness for the collections and customer-service work described; it is not simply a driving-only job.
Basic pay, bonus and four-weekly paydays
The advert states basic pay of £26,879 a year plus bonus, with £28,079 in on-target earnings, or OTE. OTE includes the bonus element and should not be read as guaranteed basic pay. The bonus conditions are not set out in the supplied description.
PHS also advertises £12.92 an hour plus bonus. Both the hourly and annual amounts are quoted as supplied; their rounding should not be used to invent a different annual salary.
The listing specifies 13 paydays a year, every four weeks. This is a four-weekly payment cycle, rather than 12 calendar-month payments. Ask how the bonus and any overtime are paid when checking the offer.
